Abstract :
This study investigated the effectiveness of teaching summary writing in English in order to improve non-native English speaking students’ writing abilities in the target language. Employing a pre-test / post-test model, the study examined possible significant differences between the results of experimental and control groups. Data was collected in two ways: (1) by a questionnaire completed by students in the study and (2) by a grading-scale analysis of pre-test and post-test results . Most of the data was analyzed with ANOVA. The findings revealed that teaching summary witing has positive effects on the students’ developing writing skills in English. A “summary writing teaching model” and suggestions to improve programs in English Language Teaching Departments were proposed in light of the findings.
