Abstract :
Required characteristics with respect to content and form in the light of modern criterion of course books which are used as the primary course material in Turkish Teaching as a Foreign Language are the required aspects that must be worked on. Course books have great importance because they are the primary sources in language teaching. Course books, which are the most frequently used sources by teachers and students, therefore m ust be freed from mistakes and must present the best examples of the language to the audience. However, nowadays still as a reflection of lack of program, materials that are inconsistent in content; fa r away from key criterion and standard; so behind the times in terms of page layout and illustration/visualization are produced. Program for Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language should be designed in the manner that meets everyone on a common ground and this program, after being developed, should be put to use by all institutions teaching Turkish as a foreign language. It is important to set a standard without hindering diversity by developing materials in conformity with the program. Thus, accreditation level of the documents provided by institutions will have risen. In order to reach the right combination, first step is program development and the second step is the preparation of course books and supporting materials according to certain standards.
