Abstract :
Riddle-solving is a pattern of linguistic behaviour of an individual, whom s/he learns in childhood. This linguistic behaviour is a kind of path to be utilized to attain the knowledge both in the flow of the daily life and among the institutions in the following years. However, riddle-solving pattern displays variety according to the requirements of institutions. The aim of this study is to analyse if riddle-solving patterns of the language are used in the classroom communication at the university and how they are used in the classroom discourse. This case study was performed by recording six class hours from the Turkish Language course to gather data at the faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Anadolu University. The findings of the study revealed that riddle solving game is placed as a speech behavior in the Turkish classes with their own structure. It is thought that frequent use of this speech behaviour, contributing to the learning process, has a bridge function between the current and the new information. Additionally, it can contribute conveying new information which will be attached to the already existed knowledge of learners more effectively and productively by the lecturer.
