  • Abstract
After the temporary transferal of administration of the Cyprus Island to England in 1878, the official announcement of England on the accretion of the Island in 1914 and the acceptance of this situation by Turkey according to the Peace Treaty of Lausanne dated 1923, the island was out of the agenda of Turkey. In 1954 when Greece brought the case of the Island before the United Nations, Cyprus became a primarily important issue on the agenda of Turkey. The Press interest to the issue was an important variable on creating public opinion. It is a doubtless fact that the period between 1954 and July 20, 1974, is the most critical period of Turkey on the Cyprus Case. This study focuses on the Turkish governmental policies and the overall approach of the Turkish Press to the issue.
