Abstract :
War conditions prepare an ideal condition for diseases. During the Balkan Wars, the troops and people of the side countries struggled with various epidemics the most important of them was the cholera. No doubt cholera is such a big danger that can affect the course of the war. And feared the people more than the enemy troops. In this article I tried to evaluate the news related with cholera from the Greek media during the Balkan Wars and I scanned the Athens newspapers Embros and Skrip, also the newspaper Macedonia from Thessaloniki (Sallonica). During the First Balkan War, they were no news at the Greek media related the problems of the Greek Army. But, the troubles of the Ottoman Army due to cholera especially at Çatalca – Hadımköy region widely published. In this period Greek media published the events from Ottoman Capital and Bulgarian Army. May be they tried to give the following message to Greek public “Our Army is strong, we can gain the war”. At the Second Balkan Wars period the enthusiasm of the Greek Media returned to fight with cholera at Greece. Because, after the transportation of the Greek soldiers and Bulgarian captives all the Greece faced with cholera problem. The newspapers published articles related with importance of vaccination and measures must be taken at cities and towns against the cholera. Media took an important mission to edificate the people.
