Abstract
The press, which plays a vital role in enlightening the public, took on a major task in treating the Lausanne Conference that was a crucial event for the Turkish society. At the beginning of this process, the Turkish side endeavored to establish a proper communication with both foreign and local press in order to disseminate its just causes. To this end, all possible channels were used; however, connections with some press organizations were cut off due to concerns that they would negatively impact the maxim of Misak-ı Milli (National Oath). Accordingly allowances for Reuters Agency and Havas Agency were cut off. The impressive dialogue that İsmet İnönü and his team established with the press at the outset of the Lausanne Conference could not eliminate the prejudice of the West against the Turkish side; yet, it indicated that an unconditioned surrender was out of question. In this regard the proper connection established with the press helped the conference to produce positive results for the Turkish side
