Abstract :
This article explores one area of the curriculum, cognitive aspects, developed within the e-Educator module during 2005-2006 as part of the collaboration between the University of Nottingham, UK and Beiwai Online at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing, China. The rationale for the inclusion of criticality, information literacy and inquiry as the skills for inclusion within cognitive aspects is introduced. This includes a recognised need for higher education to produce . citizens that can contribute to the social, cultural and economic needs with both developed and developing countries. The pedagogic approach taken is common to all areas of the curriculum within the e-Educator module - one in which a core section covers key issues and concepts followed by a section that includes resources that support the trainee tutors in further developing their understanding of the area. The article provides an overview of the criticality and information literacy curriculum materials as well as a consideration of data from the evaluation of these online curriculum materials
