Abstract
This article outlines three of the online-learning support tools used in the e-Educator, i.e. the Audio Recorder (AR), Workspace and Learning Activity Analysis Tool (LAAT), emphasising the pedagogic rationale behind the development of each tool. It looks at the origins of these tools and why there was a perceived need to develop them. Each section then looks at the components of the tool in question, how it was constructed and how each tool will develop beyond the end of the e-Educator project. The article ends by looking at the use of VLEs from the developers points of view and a look into what the future holds for such tools, with an ultimate cautionary note looking at the costs ofproduction
