Abstract :
Whether in the Ottoman period or in the Turkish Republic, interest in many branches of art has been intense. However, it is noteworthy that the developments and activities in this area have differentiated with the declaration of the Republic and have a new meaning. Westernization, which can also be defined as modernization, has brought uninterrupted debates with its emergence in different living spaces. Conceptual discussions and different perspectives have been on the agenda of Westernization which has not been fully understood or even understood in terms of its contents in the first years of the Republic, as it was in the recent periods of the Ottoman State. Because the literary works of the period are the values which deal with this ambivalent attitude in different ways and which reveal many rich works in this direction. Art and, in particular, musical art can be viewed as another indicator of the level of modernization and development of a society, as can other branches of art. For this reason Mustafa Kemal Atatürk aimed to develop and progress in almost all branches of art as well as positive sciences in the contemporary and modern society in the first years of the Republic.This study evaluates the modernization and modernization which is tried to be summarized briefly above, and how Western musicology is technically taken as a way of modernization and progress in this area. For this purpose, the transformation of Darülelhan to Conservatory in the transition from Ottoman to Turkish Republic aims to understand in chronology.
