Effects of Different Seedling Types and Growing Media on Soilless Culture Strawberry Growing

The study was conducted to reveal the effects of different seedling types [potted and frigo seedling] and growing media [peat (T), perlite (P), cocopit (K) and volcanic tuff (V)] on the yield of soilless strawberry cultivation in accordance with fruit quality in two years (2006-2007 and 2007-2008). While the potted seedlings planted in September gave the first harvest in December and January months, it was end of February for frigo seedlings planted in July. While the highest fruit yield was obtained in March and April months for both seedling types, the highest amount of first fruit quality was at the beginning of harvest time (in a period from December to February) and went down towards end of May. When different growing media used in the experiment was taken into consideration, cocopit and cocopit+volcanic tuff growing media gave the best results in terms of first and second class fruit yield.
