Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine prospective physical education teachers’ measurement and evaluation common competency perceptions and to analyze the significant differences in prospective teachers’ perceptions in terms of gender, school and whether measurement and evaluation course which they took before was sufficient. Total of 200 prospective teachers [84 female, 116 male (Age= 22.15±1.91) who studying in Department of Physical Education and Sports at Gazi and Selcuk Universities, participated the study voluntarily. “Measurement And Evaluation Common Competency Perception Scale For Prospective Teachers” which contains 24 statements and developed by Nartgün (19) completed as instrument to gather data. The scale has three sub-scales called “basic concepts”, “measurement techniques” and “statistical analysis and report writing”. To analyze data, descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Z test, Levene’s test, Mann- Whitney U test and Two Way MANOVA were used. According to the results, it was found that prospective teachers’ measurement and evaluation common competency perception levels with reference to “whole scale”, “basic concepts”, “measurement techniques” and “statistical analysis and reporting” were low-key (Mean = 76.79±15.50; mean = 19.27±5.37; mean = 29.54±6.40, mean = 27.97±6.60). According to data analyzed, it was determined that there are statistically significant differences among common competency perception score means with reference to “whole scale” and the other three subscales in terms of whether measurement and evaluation course which they took before, was sufficient (p 0.05). Consequently, it can be said that competency perception levels were low-key for prospective teachers who also think measurement and evaluation course which they took in undergraduate education was not sufficient.
