Parental knowledge on childhood asthma in an outpatient setting

A survey was carried out among parents of asthmatic children in Kangar Hospital, Perlis, Malaysia to assess their level of knowledge on childhood asthma and its management. Our findings revealed that parents have adequate knowledge on the causesand symptoms of asthma but were less informed about the management of asthma. It is important that parents should be able to recognise symptoms of an asthmatic attack or take the necessary precautions to avoid such an attack. Parents or guardians education pertaining to asthma and its management is therefore recommended
