  • Abstract
A novel technique of measuring the thickness of the Sun chromosphere using planet mercury transit phenomena has been carried out. Two telescopes were used with Celestron CG-14 monitoring the photosphere of the Sun and Coronado SolarMax-60 monitoring the chromosphere. Using video technique, we measured the time taken by planet Mercury to move in the photosphere and chromosphere with the two telescopes. The thickness of chromosphere was calculated by multiplying the orbital speed of Mercury and the time taken for the Mercury transit. For minimum orbital speed of planet Mercury, the thickness was calculated as 2448.18km and for maximum orbital speed the thickness was 3715.74km. The error in the measurement of time was about 10 percent.
