Abstract :
The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of ceramic brackets bonded with resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), conventional composite resins and a newly developed flor-releasing composite resin. Fifty-one maxillary first premolars were randomly divided into 3 groups. The teeth in the first group were bonded with Transbond XT, whereas the teeth in the second group were bonded with a one-step resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC). Third group were bonded with Clearfil S3 Bond Plus. SBS tests were performed with a Universal testing machine. The highest SBS value was calculated in the Clearfil S3 Bond Plus group (13,77±2,11 MPa) and the lowest value was found in the RMGIC group (8,61±0.66 MPa). Ceramic brackets showed adequate SBS when bonded with all types of adhesives compared in this study. Bonding of ceramic brackets with Clearfil S3 Bond Plus should be done with caution due to its high SBS values which were close to enamel fracture limit.
