Abstract :
Hemisection is the surgical process by which a multi rooted tooth, usually a mandibular molar is converted into a single rooted tooth by the removal of one root and the associated portion of the crown. Generally, pros thetic restoration completed afterhemisection procedures. Prosthetic restoratio nmay be single crown or bridge abutment. It is possible to utilize a segment of multirooted tootheven though retention of the entire tooth is impossible due to advanced periodontal dise ase, carious lesion or endodontic failure. For this reason, when an extraction is indicated for a lower molar tooth because of a problem related to one of its roots, hemisection or root amputation may be an alternative therapy. In this case report, hemisection performed on mandibular first molar tooth due to endodontic and periodontal reasons and after ortodontic treatment approach are presented.
