GALERI ILMU SDN. BHD. “TARBIAH NOVEL”: A TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OF ANDAI BAVARIA TAKDIRKU

Galeri Ilmu Sdn. Bhd. (GISB) publishes novels under the Novel Tarbiah series (including Novel Tarbiah Remaja and Novel Tarbiah Dewasa) with certain criteria, which in this article called “Novel Tarbiah GISB” (or GISB Tarbiah Novels) criteria. The purpose of this article is to examine the extent to which the novels published under the Novel Tarbiah series have manifested the outlined criteria of “Novel Tarbiah GISB”. Therefore, this article analyses a novel entitled Andai Bavaria Takdirku (2011) written by Nurulsham Saidin and Nieda Lienke and published by Galeri Ilmu Sdn. Bhd. under the series of “Novel Tarbiah Dewasa”. This article utilises qualitative research method particularly the Textual Analysis which applies the “GISB Tarbiah Novel” criteria as an analytical framework. The results of the analysis found that the studied novel developed a story of a women s persistence along with many Islamic messages. The studied novel also featured a protagonist s character that has strong religious beliefs and perseverance to overcome many impediments in life. With these findings, the article concludes that Andai Bavaria Takdirku manifested two criteria of Novel Tarbiah that are outlined by Galeri Ilmu Sdn. Bhd., i.e. messages highlighting Islamic values, and protagonist with “qualities of a good teacher” (tarbawi).
