Abstract
Sheikh Abu Bakar al-Asha’ari was one of the Salafi activists. Some
of his views r egarding Islamic law had cr eated uneaseness to muslim
society in Malaysia in the early 1960s. Ther efore, this ar ticle at-
tempts to scr utinize his views of fiqh issues as well as on his contr o-
versial fatwas and to evaluate its r elevency to the cur rent situation
in Malaysia.
