Universıty-Industry Cooperation In Regional Development: Konya Case

Changing world order upon globalization has been affected regional policies and leaded changes at conceptualizing of regional development and applying regional policies. Upon this change, the terms of region, development and regional development have been reshaped, role of innovation at regional development gained importance. Innovation at regional development composed an attractive agenda regarding to activating of current resources at the region, highlighting socio-cultural and organizational structure, especially cooperation of all actors. The universities that are the most important actors in the region should produce scientific and technological information; should turn industry and mentioned data accumulation into commercial products. Cooperation of those actors is the most important key of the region at development. The countries having the developed industry, with the importance they give to acquiring the technology, developing the technology and innovation, gave some opportunities the formation of remarkable developments in the areas such as the human resources and number of full time researchers. Depending on the size, spread, and sustainability, RE DE(Research Development) intensive high innovativeness skill, become a national culture, and the high value added production, as results of these, caused the countries to seriously move forward in technology. The universities having the necessary human resources and infrastructure became an effective resource for the companies that want to make innovation. Therefore, the cooperation made provides benefit for both parts. This benefit positively affects the national development, especially regional development, and with the innovative studies carried by the universities and industries, increasing the opportunities for employment, expresses a process, in which they provide the economic advantages and, thus, they support to each other. The aim of the study is to determine how to effectively make university –industry cooperation in the regional developlment; the existent policies and their forms of application in our country and the province Konya; and the perception and expectations of the industry (industrial sector employees in Konya) and universities (academics in four universities located in Konya) In this study, terms of regional development and university-industry cooperation have been considered together with its all aspects and historical background plan in the frame of academic view. Inquiry has been applied to academicians from four universities in Konya and industry sector employees in Konya. At the end of analysis results based to inquiry results set forth the studies of Regional development benefits of university-industry cooperation, role of the state at this cooperation, present cooperation managements, and their thoughts on success factors on cooperation.
