Abstract :
Highway transportation sector, which is one of the significant subject matter of logistics management, is a market where the competition is high. The customers demand more customer service and more detailed operational information in these activities from logistics enterprises. Furthermore; flexibility, fully and timely delivery and increasing e-trade applications in highway transportation operations change the customer expectations. Logistics enterprises should continue to develop their highway transportation activities to get ahead of their opponents. At this point, logistics enterprises are expected to benefit from information technologies in fleet management. Information technologies connect together all the different components (supply chain, headquarters and vehicles) in transportation chain. Accordingly; efficiency and productivity of transportation operations increase. In logistic processes; knowing the location of vehicles and the goods carried by vehicles constitute great importance for enterprises, regardless of the transportation method used. Particularly the developments in recent years provide continuous mobile and wireless connections between transportation vehicles and logistics enterprises. These developments lead the way for vehicle tracking system applications in logistics enterprises. Furthermore; information technology applications are frequently used by logistics enterprises to manage the personnel, efficiency and resources in the storage, track and control the stock movements of products from their departure from the storage to the transportation. In addition; in a world where information and communication systems develop swiftly, a state keeping away from the developments in information technologies means alienation of state from the society and its failure to rule the society. Accordingly; many great states try to develop projects swiftlyand increase the quality of the services they produce for the society. At this point, e-state concept appears.
