Abstract :
Literary texts exemplify the aesthetic and multiple-meaning use of the language. Their stylistic and contextual structures require analysis. In this analysis, the stylistic features of the writer contribute to the meaning of the text. Literary text writer uses all possibilities of the language while concretizing her/his intellectual designs; s/he tries to express her/himself in the best way, to communicate with readers. Especially, in the types such as short story and poem that require language economy, s/he uses the power of the words, their connotations as well as denotations, figurative language, symbolic expressions, images and implicit expressions. S/he improves his own forms of language use by using linguistic structures such as words, word phrases and sentences in different way. Writer produces an original text while conveying her/his feelings, thoughts and experiences to her/his readers through the language use possibilities, by moving from the principle of fitting more things into fewer words. The way the writer uses language indicates his stylistic features and the analysis of these features allows better understanding of the text. Stylistics that tries to define the rules that determine linguistic order and the features of the sentences on the text occurs as the successor of the rhetoric and the antecedent of the textlinguistics. Rhetoric has researched the ways of effective speaking in front of community; stylistics has researched the use of linguistic elements in an effective writing. While modern linguistic studies have been realized at the level of sentence, the investigation of the structures beyond sentences has been realized in the field of stylistics. Because stylistics has used the texts for investigating stylistic features. Textlinguistics that forms an important part of contemporary linguistic studies uses stylistics in text analysis. Textlinguistics is also a text analysis method. In this method, lexical and grammatical cohesion elements on the surface structure of the text are language uses that illuminate analysis. The stylistic features are one of the features that should already be examined in textlinguistic analysis. In this case stylistics is in the scope of textlinguistics. While analyzing literary texts and their types, stylistic features are elements presenting important data in understanding. Structures that allow texts to have different stylistic features can be expressed by basic titles such as lexical and grammatical cohesion elements, syntactic and semantic style features. Contemporary stylistics reaches layers of meaning and notional structures while investigating the original language use of the writer. In this way, it tries to find both the writer’s value judgments, point of view and ideology, and the currents of thought that affect society. In this context, a stylistic analysis will be realized on the stylistic features of the short story Özgürlük Atları in Parasız Yatılı by Füruzan and the text will be better understood by distinguishing different language use related to the stylistic features of the writer. During the stylistic analysis of the short story, the possibilities of the textlinguistics will be used as well as Leech and Short’s stylistic analysis method.
