Abstract :
Odontogenic cysts in the jaw are usually located inthe mandibular ramus and corpus. In histopathologi-cal examination, they are characterized with palisad-ing in the basal layer and large keratinized ‘ghost’ celltumor appearance. Odontogenic cysts are importantdue to their quick growth clinically and pathologi-cally and their high rate of recurrence. Various sur-gical techniques may be used in its treatment.The56-year-old male patient admitted to our clinic withcomplaints of a nodule in his mandibular corpus andintermittent leakage was found to have a 5x5 cm.hard and smooth tumor. The tumor was removed bydissection from the mandibula together with its peri-osteal and capsule. The pathological examination ledto the diagnosis of a calcifying odontogenic cyst. Norecurrence was seen during the two-year follow-upof the patient. In our case, no recurrence was seenin the clinical follow-up for two years after the opera-tion. This means that odontogenic cyst treatment ispossible without grafting. We would like to focus theinterest on surgical treatment of a calsifying odonto-genic cyst surgery is possible without grafting andmandibular prosthesis implantation. In this way, graftresorption or implant complications may be avoided.
