Abstract
Cytomegalovirus infection is endemic in most
countries. It is a DNA virus and after its primary
occurrence becomes latent and periodic reactivation
with intermittent viral shedding may continue
throughout life. The virus shed ding occurs in
different components of th e body fluid as saliv a,
urine, feces, blood, semen, cervical secr etion a nd
breast m ilk. The virus ca n cross the placenta a nd
congenital infection of the fetus might occur in any
time of gestation al period.
