Current population-based public health workforces in Bangladesh

World Health Day 2006 demonstrated spotlight on health wor kforce crisis. T he report mentioned that an ac ute sh ortage of hea lth workers is havi ng a devastating i mpact on m any countries' ability to fight disease and im prove health. The re port outlines the need for more investment in the he alth workforce and sets out a 10-year plan to address the crisis1. The World health report 2006 defines health workers as a ll pe ople engaged i n actions w hose primary intent is to en hance hea lth2,3. Health workers include people who provide health services such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians a nd m anagement an d su pport w orkers such as financial office rs, cooks, dri vers and cleaners4-5.
