Abstract :
Language learning strategies are conscious efforts by the learner in exhibiting specific behaviour, which will facilitate a learning process that is self-directed. Strategy choice and frequency of use are influenced by factors such as learner characteristics and situational demands. Since a large percentage of Malaysian classrooms are co-educational , gender too becomes an important variable, which could influence strategy use in the ESL classroom. This study investigated the influence of gender on the use of language learning strategies of secondary school ESL students .
