The Economical Importance of Feed Usage and Animal Feeding Attitudes in Dairy Cattle Husbandry in Kars Province

This research was conducted to determine the animal feeding practices and level of knowledge among dairy cattle producers in Kars province. The main material of this study was the data obtained by surveying 162 livestock producers in the central villages of Kars. The data obtained were analysed by the chi-square test. It was determined that there was a significant relationship between the amount of roughage usage and milk yield (P 0.01). In contacts with dairy enterprises of Kars province, it was stated that the 93.6% of producers who have fields practise agricultural production, and the 88.7% of them cultivate forage. It was further observed that trefoil and vetch were given mostly among the forages used. Besides, it was stated that the 3.1% producers sell forage acquiring 5.900 TL additional incomes, approximately. As a result, it was suggested that training producers to improve their knowledge on the points of feeding animals and how to profit meadows and grow forage would make a marked contribution to livestock farming.
