Abstract :
Epidemical animal diseases had caused important economical losses and therefore they were always prior subjects in the agenda of governments. Various measures have taken for struggling with these diseases. Veterinary Control Institutes are important establishments on the subjects such as preventive medicine, public health, hygiene, education of public and breeders, education of civil veterinarians and veterinary clinicians who are in their service areas for veterinary services across Turkey. In this study, it is aimed to assess the historical development of Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute and its position at present. Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute archive documents, laboratory registrations, science committee decisions, briefing records presented to relevant Ministry and photographs of Institute were examined, person to person interviews were done. Books and articles about the subject were scanned. The data were evaluated with retrospective to the method used in historical researches. As a result, it was concluded that Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute was an important institute for veterinary employments and animal husbandry across Turkey. Therefore, it can be advocated that it will be important and necessary that the institution continue its studies in the future too.
