Abstract :
Pancreas is a gland, consisted of endocrine and exocrine areas and shows some characteristic and functional differences between animal species. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the macro-anatomical and histologic features of magpie (Pica pica)’s pancreas by histologic methods. In the study, magpies pancreas lobes obtained were fixed in 10% buffered formaldehyde solution. Fixed tissues were dehydrated in alcohol series, cleaned in xylene and embedded in paraffin blocks and paraffin block were cut and obtained 5-μm thickness of sections. The section was histologically and immunohistochemically stained and endocrine and exocrine areas were examined. Exocrine pancreas consisted of numerous serous acinus and endocrine pancreas were 1-2% ratio of total pancreas and located in especially near the blood vessels. Also, it was observed that endocrine islets were consisted of alpha, beta and mix islets. The results of this study revealed that endocrine and exocrine pancreas could show the some characteristic and functional differences depending on feeding habits.
