The mutagenic effect of some compound was studied in bacterial mutagenic detection system (G-system) composed of three different isolates belong to different genera, G3 (Bacillus ssp); G12 (Arthrobacter ssp) and G27 (Brevibacterium ssp).
The tested compounds were piractin (active component Cyproheptadine), diacetyl and Tween 80 at 1 and 100 µg/ml concentrations.
The results revealed that Cyproheptadine had a mutagenic effect as it induced streptomycin and rifampicin resistant mutants in the isolates as evaluated by measuring the mutant yield and mutant frequency Mx.
Diacetyl exhibited similar effect.
Tween 80 induced streptomycin and rifampicin in sensitive isolate G12 and induced also resistance to streptomycin only in G27.
