Abstract :
This study aimed to examine development period of university campuses, settlement systems and the planning criteria of the spaces for common use where the people in the campus will come together and share ideas and the deficiency of which is observed in existing campuses, evaluate the spaces for common use in the Selcuk University Alâeddin Keykubat Campus and expose results to contribute the physical development of the campus. The identification of the university concept and campus concept in universities were examined in the first part pf the study. The university campuses settlement systems and spaces for common use were researched. At the end of the study, the sample area Selcuk University Alâeddin Keykubat Campus was examined and the spaces for common use were evaluated according to the planning criteria. According to the results of the evaluation chapter, the spaces for common use of educational and basic needs were generally evaluated as favorable in the Alâeddin Keykubat Campus which was designed according to the scattered type settlement system. However there were some negative points determined in the planning of recreational spaces for common use like location, yearly use. In the future the offers which will be done for the development of the campus will be in the points of designing recreational areas in different places of the campus area and providing their yearly use conditions.
