THE IMPACT OF URBAN CULTURE ON CRIME – THE CASE OF SANLIURFA

The goal of this study in which the connection between the crimes committed in the Province of Şanlıurfa and the urban culture is surveyed is mainly to investigate the correlation between urban culture and crime particularly in Şanlıurfa. The subject matter of the study comprises of such questions as whether spatial, cultural, social and economic dynamics that structure the urban life have any impact on the crimes committed in cities and which crime types are affected from these dynamics and to what extent they are affected. Internal migration, influence of tribes and communities, being a frontier town, development of urbanization based on agriculture, persistence with the influence of patriarchal family structure are among the significant dynamics of the urban culture in Şanlıurfa. It is possible to find the traces of these dynamics that builds up the urban culture within the crimes committed in Şanlıurfa.
