Abstract
Whether nursing is a profession or not is in debate for a long time . Considering the scope of criteria of professionalism, nursing is not fully match those criteria but after 1980, there was a significant progress in this way. However, nursing have some weaknesses in gaining autonomy and having scientific based knowledge so those areas in particular need to be strenghthened. In this study, status of nursing in Turkey are discussed with in context of the criteria of professionalism
