Reliability and Validity of Nutritional Changes Processes Scale

Background: Obesity (overweight) is a pathological condition defined more than that required for optimal body function and energy balance, fat deposition disorders. The eating behavior of obese individuals is not possible to change the genetic makeup but changing the habit of positive can be acquired healthy lifestyle behaviors Aim: The purpose of this study, was developed to evaluate the validity and reliability in Turkey Nutrition Processes of Change Scale the experience developed in order to determine how it affects some people’s eating habits by Prochaska et al. (1987). Methods: Sample of study was 480 randomly selected obese patients Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital between inpatients and outpatients in the Division of Endocrinology in August-November 2011. Patient identifying information form and Nutrition Processes of Change Scale used as a data collection tool. It was taken written consent from the owner of Scale, ethics committee, patients and the institution. Nutrition Processes of Change Scale consists of 48 items. Using a 5-grade Likert scale of their participation status of each expression were detected. Percentage distribution of the data, factor analysis, item-total score correlations and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient analysis was used. -Correlation-Coefficients were calculated to establish day-to-day repeatability. Results: In Linguistic validity of the scale, was translated by 4 experts qualified English translation and back into Turkish. For the content validity were 13 qualified expert, the analysis revealed that scores of the experts (KW=0.100, p=0.07). Intraclass Nutrition Processes of Change Scale ICC was 0.90. That was found the factor loadings between 0.420-0.864, divided into 12 groups and the overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient factor of 0.94. Conclusion: Nutritional Change Processes Scale is a scale with high reliability and validity for the Turkish population.
