Abstract :
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the factors that affect severity of women menopausal complaints in climacteric period. Methods: The cross sectional and descriptive study was conducted on women that have applied to Atatürk University Aziziye Research Hospital Menopause Policlinic. The research was carried out with 263 women chosen with simple random sampling method. “Survey Form” and “Menopause Rating Scale (MRS)” was used in gathering data. Results: MRS somatic complaints point average was determined to be 4.19±2.08, psychological complaints point average was 13.12±4.59 and urogenital complaints point average was found to be 5.35±3.09. MRS point average was determined to be 22.67±8.06. Difference among women’s MRS total point average according to marriage age, making decisions in family, total birth number, how they go through menopause, how they perceive menopause was found to be statistically significant (p 0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that all of the women in the research went through menopause symptoms on “medium” or “close to medium” severity level. It was determined that women who were over the age of 20 and who took part in decision making process in her family experienced menopausal symptoms less while women who had 6 or more births, who entered menopause with surgical method, and who perceived menopause as “feeling of getting old”, “decrease of sexuality/end of sexuality” experiences more menopause symptoms.
