Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the learning and studying approaches of nursing students. Method: This descriptive study was carried out with 458 Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing department students. Data was collected in classroom environment with Data Sheet and Learning and Studying Approaches Scale. Data was analyzed with frequency, percentage, t-test and analysis of variance tests in SPSS v.20 statistical program. Results: Students’ learning and studying approaches revealed that superficial strategy scores outweighed deep strategy scores, while deep motivation scores outweighed superficial motivation scores. There were no differences between sexes in deep approach whereas male students’ mean scores were higher than female students’ scores in superficial approach (t:- 4.516, p: 0.000). A significant difference was found between class level and deep and superficial approach scores. Conclusion: As a conclusion, it was found that nursing students mainly use superficial approach. Nursing students should be guided to adopt a deep approach as a learning and studying approach.
