Abstract :
Adaptation of diabetic patients to the disease includes individuals’ diet, exercise and drugadherence. Besides it is possible to improve this adaptation individually, healthcare personnelespecially nurses, have an important role in this process. With health promotion modeldeveloped by Pender, nurses aims to do behavioral changes to create a healthy lifestylefor individuals by exploring their past experiences, behavior-specific benefit and barrierperceptions. The purpose of this article, is to develop a guide for the use of Pender’s HealthPromotion Model in developing healthy life behaviors that have a positive effect on diabeticpatients’ adaptation to the disease. In the review, the diabetes disease and the factors thataffect adaption to the disease were examined; these factors were discussed via HealthPromotion Model.
