Investigation of Nurses’ and Patients’ Perceptions Regarding Nursing Care

Aim: The study was carried out to examine the patients’ and nurses’ perception of nurse care and to show the difference between them. Material and Methods: In this descriptive study, 140 patients who were treated in surgical and internal medicine clinics and 140 nurses who provided care to these patients constituted the sample of the study. A data collection form and Caring Behaviors Scale-30 were used in the data collection. Results: In our study in which we determined the perception of patients and nurses using the BDI-30, it was found that the mean total scores and subscale scores were fairly high and there was no difference between the mean total scores. In the study, it was determined that the majority of the patients were satisfied with nursing care and that as the satisfaction with the nursing increased, the scale total score and subscale scores increased. According to our study findings, nurses’ and patients’ perceptions of care were positive, and nurses emphasized that many factors affect quality of care in a negative way. Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the average scores of BDI-30 total scores and subscale scores of patients and nurses were very high. It may be advisable to repeat the study with a wider sample with the participation of patients and nurses taking care in different clinics.
