Synthesis and Investigation of Some Polyesterurethanes Based on Hydroxy Terminated Polyesters

Hydroxy terminated polyesters were synthesized by the reactionof tetrabromophthalic, phthalic, and maleic anhydrides withpolyethylene glycol via melt condensation technique. They were characterizedby hydroxyl number and intrinsic viscosity measurements.Also, the fire retardancy of polyesters was reacted with excess toluene-2, 4-diisocyanate to yield isocyanate terminated prepolymerswhich were subsequently reacted with 5,5-dihydroxymethyl-2-trichloromethyl-1,3-dioxane or ethylene diamine. These polymers werecharacterized by IR and 1H NMR spectra, viscosity measurements,and thermogravimetric analysis. A change of the electrical conductanceof the compounds with increasing temperature is observed for the solid samples.
