Abstract
The bidentate N-donor ligand 2,2 -biquinoline C18H12N2 [I]reacts with the salt [Ru(CO)2Cl2)]n [II] in (1:1) mole in THF. Thisgives a stable yellow crystallized solid dichlorodicarbonyl 2,2 -biquinolineruthenium (II) [Ru(CO)2Cl2C18H12N2] complex [III]. Similarlytreatment of molybdenum hexacarbonyl with 2,2 -biquinoline in (1:1)mole ratio in toluene gives a very dark violet crystals of tetracarbonyl2,2 -biquinoline molybdenum (0) [Mo(CO)4C18H12N2] complex [IV].Spectroscopic data indicates that metal atoms in these complexes arecoordinated through both the N-atoms of 2,2 -biquinoline thusmaintain an octahedral geometry of these complexes. The complex(IV) on treatment with triphenylphosphine in (1:1) mole ratio givesmono substituted tricarbonyl triphenylphosphine 2,2 - biquinolinemolybdenum(0) complex (V). Similarly the complex (IV) ontreatment with (1:2) mole ratio with triphenylphosphine or with largeexcess of triphenylphosphine gives disubstituted dicarbonyl bistriphenylphosphinemolybdenum(0) complex (VI).All the complexes were characterized by IR 1HNMR spectroscopy, and by elemental analysis.
