Abstract
Thecurrentstudyinvestigatedwhethertheprovisionofedutainmentcouldcontributetoimprovinglisteningcomprehensionandself-conceptintheEFLcontextofIran.Toaddressthisissue,twointactclasseswereassignedtothecontrolandexperimentalgroup,eachcon-tainingthirtystudents.Thisquasi-experimentalstudywasimplementedonthepre-test-post-testequivalentgroupdesign.Theresultsofthepre-testsindicatedthattheparticipantsofthetwogroupswerehomogenousregardingtheirproficiencylevelaswellastheirlisteningcomprehensionandself-concept.Quantitativedatawascollectedusingalisteningcom-prehensiontestandRobson’s(1989)self-conceptquestionnaire(SCQ)beforeandafteredutainmentimplementation.Descriptiveandinferen-tialanalysesofthecollecteddata,overa36session-period,revealedthat theexperimentalgroupsignificantlyoutperformedthecontrolgrouponthescalesoflisteningcomprehensionandself-conceptwhichreflectsthattheuseofedutainmentappearstoprovideauniqueopportunityforthestudentstoimprovetheirlisteningcomprehensionandself-concept.Thecombinationofeducationandentertainmentmadelearningmoreattrac-tive,entertaining,andinteresting.Itgavethelearnersanewopportu-nitytoacquireknowledgeinaninterestinginformativeway.
