Abstract
The stereotypes concerning gender roles, which are defined culturally independentfrom sex and define our social behaviour as men and women, constitute a significantobstacle against women in entering into working life as in many other areas. Thesestereotypes, unfortunately, are accepted by a large majority of women; although mostof them work against women. This study, which is based upon the interviews with 26women participated in the studies done under Promoting Women s EmploymentOperation in 43 provinces of Turkey tries to explain how gender stereotypes regardingwomen s work ensure into their mindset patterns.
