Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of nanoparticle addition of cerium oxide to diesel fuel, B5 and B20 on engine performance and exhaust emissions of a 4-cylinder diesel engine at different engine speed. The statistical analysis conducted with SAS program under complete Random design (CRD) with three factors and 90 treatments. The results show a significant difference at (P ≤ 0.05) level of research parameters on engine performance and emission, addition of (10 ppm) of cerium oxide increased engine power about 1.95%, 6.4% and 11.93% of diesel fuel,B5 and B20, respectively. Diesel fuel produced lower BSFC than B5 and B20 under all range of engine speed. Biodiesel fuel at B20 and B5 with cerium oxide addition obtained lower carbon monoxide (CO) emissions compared to diesel fuel. The rate of nitrogen oxides (NOx) decreased about 5.7%, 2% and 2.9% when cerium oxide used with B20, B5 and diesel fuel, respectively.
