Abstract :
Iranian Primary Health Care (PHC) system was established in response to health care needs in the early 1980s and aligned with its goal, training of community health workers has been undertak-en, since then. The health care needs change over time (1), due to variations in population attrib-utes, epidemiological factors, and educational level of the society. However, these changes have not been incorporated in the educational system. Hence, in spite of the fact that Iranian PHC sys-tem has been successful in terms of reducing in-fectious disease, it has been less effective when addressing the current health issues, such as chronic diseases (2-3) or non-communicable dis-eases which have been the leading cause of death in Iran in recent decades (4).
