FROM POEMS TO THEATRE: A TRANSFORMATION IN MARZUKI ALI’S WORK

Writing styles in each writer have always been associated with a complex detailed creative process, which would classify the writer to be in the class of his own. Often, a writer would connect with his past experiences that become part of his course in making a piece of creative text. It could be mentioned that, throughout this whole writing process, the elements of the writer’s socio-cultural background would influence the text unintentionally. Intertextuality is found to be able to explicate this whole intricate process. It focuses highly on the transformation of one text to another, which would relate to the writer’s background, his writing styles and inclinations. For the purpose of this study, the paper will focus on transformation as an important element in studying Marzuki Ali’s past works. It could also be mentioned that, Marzuki had transformed his poems into different mediums that reflect a distinctive style of his authorship. This resembles Marzuki’s continuous efforts in delivering his concerns and thoughts in appropriate different medium presented. Marzuki Ali’s long history of his authorship has proven that his works are very flexible in structures: from a piece of poem, Marzuki had creatively changed the structure of his poem that later became a play, which contained lyrical verses filled with dramatic visualizations. For that transformation, his plays had successfully received unbridled interpretations from the audience. All these attempts have evidently indicated that Marzuki is able to transform his works into variety of mediums. Without doubt, he had successfully shared his thoughts and insights for a wider crowd’s acceptance and appreciations.
