Abstract :
Research and analyses regarding passive from different angles are still being debated with popular belief that passives structure is derived from the active sentences. This is justified through many approaches, especially three generative grammar approach either Syntactic Structure (Chomsky, 1957), Government and Binding Theory (Chomsky, 1981) and the Minimalist Program (Chomsky 1995, 2000, 2001). Thus, this paper will attempts to look at the passive construction through Government and Binding Theory (Chomsky, 1981) approach. Data used in this paper were taken from ‘Kau Yang Satu’ novel, written by Nia Azalea. In this approach, the construction at passive structure di- denies the popular belief because passive structure di- is derived from its own structure which is already passive in its internal structure. Futher emphasizes, through Government and Binding Theory approach, it is able to explain the phenomenon of di- passive structure in the context of its interaction with the Case Theory, particularly in terms of NP (object) movement, logically.
