RETENTION OF INTERNAL FAMILY CALL WORDS AMONG BRUNEI S MIXED MARRIAGE FAMILIES IN SABAH

The main focus of this research is to identify the application of the word family calls Brunei language used in mixed marriage family interaction Bruneian society. The research was conducted in Kg. Pimping in the district of Membakut, Sabah. The research used two methods, library reserch and field reseacrh. The data was obtained through the use of questionnaires and interviews as the reserch used an ethnographic approach. A total of 100 respondents from Brunei who intermarried communities were selected to represent the people of Kg. Pimping. The results were analyzed using the methodology described using quantitative and qualitative. The findings showed Brunei society in Kg. Pimping who intermarried has always been synonymous with words like “patua” (grandfather), matua (grandmother), “tua laki” (the father s eldest brother), “tua bini” (mother s eldest brother), “pa tangah” (uncle middle), “ma tangah” (aunt center), “bungsu” (youngest uncle or aunt of the youngest), and “babu” (aunt). However, the word “pa damit” call (uncle before the youngest) and ma damit (aunt before the youngest) is less utilized. Most of them prefer to use “pa +name” or ma + name. The results of this study have an impact on public awareness of Brunei who interbred to keep maintaining and keeping the family nickname is even said to have a clash of two cultures through a variety of ethnic intermarriage.
