A VERBAL ANALYSIS OF SELECTED NEWS IN MALAYSIAKINI

This study is an effort to prove that news value can be explained based on linguistic discipline. News value is one of the important criteria in newspaper and this aspect seeks to explain the phenomena that affect its linguistic features. Based on observation towards research on this aspects, further research need to carry out. The flaw of previous research on the aspects to be discussed may contributes to the significance of the study besides the question of the feasibility aspects of this study that can be explained linguistically is now answered. In order to achieve the objectives and to carry out this study systematically, researchers employ a qualitative approach. Based on this qualitative approach this study includes three methods, namely library method, websites method and content analysis. The data will also employ a descriptive data elaborated. In this research, discussion and analysing data was based on four category of news value, which are eliteness, impact, negative and positive. Besides that, this study proposing a theoretical framework of Bednarek Caple (2017) which is Discursive News Value Analysis. Thirty data were analysed and the data based on social issues in this study. The findings of this study shown that each of four news value in Malaysiakini had its specific linguistic features. Each one of these linguistic features accentuates author’s ideology which influences the formation of four news value in Malaysiakini. This study also successfully extracted the background of Malaysiakini based on each social issue that has been featured in news text. The form, features and content in each news value of this newspaper was strongly tranfused by author’s ideology in order to be conveyed to the reader.
