Abstract :
A free-field correction value is a value used to convert the sound pressure response of measuring microphones during calibration from pressure field response to free-field response. A relative comparison method for determination of this correction value has been developed as an alternative to the established absolute methods. Pressure response has been compared relatively with free-field response. Microphone’s response was obtained by comparison with laboratory standard microphone where the free-field correction value is known. Both microphones were sequentially exposed to the same sound pressure level in free field and pressure field and AC voltages were measured. The free field is generated inside an anechoic chamber and pressure field using a sound calibrator. The correction values of two measuring microphones with known free-field correction value given by the manufacturer were measured for method validation. Both results were compared and show the agreement within the uncertainties and this proved the relative method can be applied.
