In this paper we examine industrial pay inequality in Turkey using Theil’s T statistic calculated from TURKSTAT’s (Turkish Statistical In¬stitute) employment and wage data for the 1992-2010 period. This paper analyzes the evolution of the wage inequality between regions (12 and 26 sub-regions), sectors, East-West and developed-underdeveloped divisions using the between-group component of the Theil T statistic. Results indicate that pay inequality between sectors increases during crisis and recession periods (1994, 2001 and 2008). Although regional wage inequality tends to decrease beginning in the mid-1990s, inequality between East and West does not display any sign of improvement.
