The Problem of Methodology in the Süfl Tafsîr

In this study, based on the examples that are chosen from süfl commentaries, it is researched and discussed that whether there is a süfl methodology of the interpretation of the Qur an, which has common and certain principles. After these researches and discussions, it is determined that it is possible to talk about a süfl methodology of the interpretation of the Qur an or some principles in the interpretation of the Qur ân used by süfls. It is emphasized that these methods or principles seem to be preexisted in the mind of a süfl interpretor before the interpretation. Therefore, they effected and shaped their interpretation. By mentioning that the same methods or principles are widely used in the exoteric interpretation of the Qur an and used by those who interpret the Qur an symbolically but don t call themselves süfls, it is concluded that -at least some of- the esoteric interpretations of the Qur an which are told to be come from divine inspiration, might be the results of reasoning.
