History of Missionary Activities in Diyarbakır

Diyarbakır and its surrounding area is an important strategic region. As in the past, today missionary activities are in progress in the region. Firstly Roman Catholics and later Protestant missionaries have worked in the city. In today, however, Evangelical Christians have been making their missionary works. This region is in the basin of Tigris‑Euphrates which is believed as the holy “promised lands” by the Evangelical Christians and Jews. Therefore, Diyarbakır is always an important center in Turkey for missionary activities of Evangelical missionaries. Christian minorities, Alawis and Kurds who live in the region are target of missionaries.
